Lobster boats in Maine – Travel Photography

“f/8 and be there.” ~ Arthur “Weegee” Fellig

Lobster boats seen against a cloudy blue sky are lit by morning sunlight. (Beth Hall)

A couple of years ago I traveled to Harrington, Maine, where I spent several early mornings photographing the docks and lobster boats.

On this particular morning, the sun stayed hidden behind the clouds. It came out for about 30 seconds and I was able to capture this image. I love the mood the light adds to the boats and clouds.

There’s so much that goes into creating a pretty picture. There are all the basics (composition, exposure, etc.), but the biggest thing is just being there when something happens, and being ready. I left the house at 4:30 a.m. that morning, but it was well worth it.
