Here’s what’s new at Beth Hall Photography

A lot has happened with my photography business in the last year, but it’s too much to try to share in one post.

Trust me, this day started out with writing a blog post of the highlights of the year, but only 4 months into the archive, I realized that there were too many photographs to share. I promise to share these photo shoots soon, and add more content on a regular basis. Keeping up with social media and blogging isn’t my strong point, I’m much better at taking pretty pictures.  If you would like to follow my work, I’m most consistent on posting to Instagram. It’s more like a latergram account, but there are more and more stories being posted during shoots…. but I’m pretty terrible at those, too. For instance, there are no photos or videos of me laying in a chicken house with a hairnet and a headlamp… you’ll just have to visualize that one for yourself, and I’ll just have to kick myself for forgetting to document that day.

The two biggest changes are a new website design and a photo studio.

I moved into a space with Cole Fennel in August, and have absolutely loved being able to have a space to work from and shoot in. While it’s so nice to be able to work from home, it’s sometimes hard to walk away from the laundry and the dirty dishes in the sink and really focus on things like…. updating the blog.

The studio has made it so much easier for product photography, and it has also allowed me to start offering head shot photography. It’s nice to be able to walk in and have lighting and a backdrop set up within minutes, and not have to take everything on location for a quick shoot. The studio is pretty simple, it’s here, and I’m always looking for people who need photography. If you know anyone, please send them my way.

The website is a different story. I’ve been thinking about it for quite a while now and trying to figure out how to implement changes  without completely negating my time investment in Photoshelter. My previous website was a combination of that site and a WordPress site. As Photoshelter changed design options on their side, it became harder to navigate seamlessly from one site to the next. I ended up having a theme conflict with my old blog, and it made me put the redesign on the front burner.

I’ll tell you what, there’s nothing like taking on a big project during a slow time to get the phone to ring.

My site redesign got started over a weekend and I was going to upload the images on the following Monday and Tuesday…. I said go, and my designer put up an “under construction” page with live link to gallery images. Then my work life blew up and I picked up 11 editorial shoots (Wall Street Journal, Arkansas LIfe, At Home in Arkansas, Corporate Counsel Magazine, CURE Magazine and Arkansas Business), 1 commercial shoot and a head shot. So my long weekend project ended up taking a couple of weeks, but I’m happy with the results and I think the design is much more user friendly. No worries, Photoshelter, I’m still using you guys for my archive. At last glance, there were over 85,000 images in that archive, WOW!

So that’s basically it, my life is the same just a different day, month, year. I’m working and mom-ing it everyday… and just trying to find that balance.
