This spring I had the opportunity to photograph Turnbuckle Farm in Bentonville, Arkansas, for an editorial feature in Plated Magazine. Editorial and agricultural photography assignments like this are some of my favorite projects because they combine storytelling, people and place. Spending time on the farm with owners Melissa and Adam Milsap gave me a chance to capture not just their land, but the heart behind it.
Turnbuckle Farm is more than a row of vegetables, it’s a vibrant hub of food and community.
The property includes a micro-bakery, seasonal produce, a farm stand stocked with fresh breads, soups and sandwiches and a food truck that transforms their harvest into made-to-order meals. They even host year-round Chef’s Dinners, and their teenage children run the truck three days a week, serving breakfast and lunch with food grown on the land.
Set alongside a creek and soon to be connected to the Razorback Regional Greenway, the farm is designed as a place to slow down. Melissa hopes it becomes a respite for bikers and walkers, a welcoming stop for anyone craving real food and connection to the land.
Assignments like this are why I love working in editorial photography and agricultural storytelling. Every farm has a unique rhythm and philosophy, and my role is to translate that into images that invite readers to experience it for themselves.
