Buffalo River, Boxley Valley area – Arkansas – Travel photographer
A couple of weeks ago I headed to the Buffalo River area to photograph fall color with a friend. Over the past couple of years I have really tried to take a little time to get out and take photos just for fun. This gives me time to experiment, keep things fresh and add to my collection of stock images of Arkansas.
We hoped to see the Elk, but weren’t expecting to see them as we rounded a sharp corner on Hwy 74 driving to Steele Creek. The unexpected stop in the road made for a great “tourist” photo of Wesley taking an iphone photo of the nearby elk. No matter how many times I’ve seen the elk, it’s always a treat to run into them… and it’s always hilarious to have to wait when they’re standing in the road. It seems like they’re never in a hurry, or spooked by cars.
We missed the prime fall color on the river, so we headed over to another spot that has an old barn next to a spring. I’ve always loved this area, and loved the natural spring. I don’t really know how to describe it other than it’s very “Arkansas.”
Our trip was timed perfectly for a stop for lunch at the restaurant on the Kingston square and probably the best fried chicken I’ve ever eaten. Such a treat!
I love this area of our state and feel fortunate to live close enough to make frequent visits.
