Behind the Lens at the Annual Walmart Shareholders Meeting: Capturing Corporate Photography and Star-Studded Performances

Attending the Annual Walmart Shareholders Meeting is always an exciting event, but waking up at 5 a.m. for it? That’s a challenge! However, year after year, the meeting proves to be worth the early start, especially when it comes to photographing the incredible performers they bring in. While I may not be deeply invested in the business side of things, the entertainment lineup never disappoints.

This year, Queen Latifah took center stage as the MC, setting the tone for an engaging and lively event. Between performances, I was tasked with photographing Walmart’s executives, which is always an essential part of the job. But, as a photographer, I’m always on the lookout for moments that add a little something extra to my shots. A member of the audience did just that, bringing some unexpected energy that made capturing those in-between moments even more entertaining.

The excitement was palpable as Walmart associates filled the venue, and the atmosphere made for some fantastic photo opportunities. One particular shot stood out to me—it really captured the spirit of the event, and I couldn’t help but feel proud of how it turned out. Finding ways to keep myself creatively engaged is always key when shooting large corporate events like this.

As for the performers, there was no shortage of talent. Jennifer Hudson wowed the crowd with her powerful rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls, a performance that left a lasting impression. American Idol winner David Cook also took the stage, performing “This Is the Time of My Life” and “World I Know” while playing his Gibson Hummingbird guitar—a detail I couldn’t help but notice since my mom recently bought a ’67 Hummingbird, a guitar she had always dreamed of owning.

The morning only got better when Joss Stone performed. Her soulful voice filled the room, and as a photographer, I was thrilled by the countless opportunities she gave me to capture dynamic shots. She’s hands-down one of the best performers I’ve ever photographed at a Walmart shareholders meeting—her energy and stage presence were incredible.

To close out the event, Tim McGraw took the stage, but my fellow photographer, Ivester, and I couldn’t help but wish his wife had performed instead! All in all, it was another successful and memorable shareholders meeting, filled with great music, talented performers, and plenty of moments to capture behind the lens.

Damn you for beating the crap outta my stuff from the show! Nice work!

And, yes, I enjoyed Tim McGraw, but Faith Hill would’ve really made my day.

I’m saddened that these artists would compromise their integrity by performing like trained monkeys for an evil corporation like Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart could have taken the fees they paid these folks and used them to provide health insurance for all their employees instead.

Or just given them a living wage.

Or left a few Mom-and-pop stores standing.

Or sold fewer guns and ammunition to crazy toothless Michigan Militia members, outfitting their post-Apocalyptic cabins in the woods.

Wal-Mart is a filthy pimp: what does that make you?
